Had such a blast doing these family portraits a few weeks ago. If only I were a faithful blogger, you'd have been able to see these darling portraits then and not now. I am so excited to show you these family shots, and also the brother pictures. They KILL me! We were SO lucky with the light. It rained all week, and then got gorgeously sunny this day. Sunshine - not so much my favorite lighting, but better than pouring rain. For the one hour of this shoot, the clouds rolled in. Perfect diffused lighting everywhere. What more could you ask for?

Fisheye at SLC

I have been terrible about updating this blog, so here's a fun shoot I got to do this summer!

Salt Lake Temple. See if you can tell which of the images are shot with the fisheye. I hadn't used that lens before, and I rented it for the day. Now I want to have it with me whenever I shoot at Salt Lake. It was so very much fun.

Man, I loved taking these. This baby wasn't even in a good mood - for her... yet she made about the loveliest little model ever! She didn't want to smile... and yet we managed.

I'm always thankful to have a new model... and plenty of time to play with her and get the shots I love. Here are some favorites from the first two months of my baby's life:

That one was taken when she was 31 hours old. I was still on some pretty heavy pain meds post C-Section. I'm mighty proud of myself for even attempting that one.

Probably my favorite one I've taken of her. Pure delight!

These newborns were a joy to shoot. I've been having so much fun with the babies lately!

Six days old and he stayed alert the whole time. Who knew babies could have such stamina... and isn't his hair fabulous!?

Wednesday's Lovely Little Man

We'd had a hard time getting this one scheduled, because I had a cold, they had an appointment come up, and then I got the stomach flu... Sheesh. Can't shoot a newborn when you're sick...

But when the stars finally aligned and all things came together Wednesday, it was worth the wait. These were shot with natural light and an SB600 with Gary Fong for some of the shots in my living room. Most of the individual shots were with my static 50mm lens at between f2 and f4.

I LOVE me some Northern window light. Always diffused. Always lovely. Always.

This shot was a magical mistake. It wasn't supposed to be so dark, but I was outshooting my flash, and some of those shots where the flash didn't go were just magic!

This hat had to be the best photo prop EVER.

Crazy Photography Weekend

Since my daughter was born at the end of February, I've been slowly dipping my toes back into the photographic waters, but things haven't really been too busy for me. Thank goodness... I needed the break.

But this weekend I was supposed to do three shoots in two days. The first two, sadly, I haven't yet gotten permission to post, so you get no images. The third had to be put off until this Wednesday.

Saturday morning I did senior portraits for Anna. She was a lovely new client. I enjoyed getting to know her and her parents. One of the highlights was a bunch of shots we took by this amazing old blue Chevy truck. Anna looked great, and her outfit complemented the truck well. We went from there to the Riverwoods to shoot over by The Veranda. I love that little spot, with it's pretty rock walls, ivy, benches, and interesting color walls as well. It was a fun morning shoot. The light also cooperated, thanks to clouds, because we had a late start... Thanks, Anna... Happy Graduation.

That evening we followed up with a huge family shoot. Seven siblings, their spouses, their children, and Mom and Dad. Whew... Good thing they were all really fun, and cooperative. It made for a good shoot. We shot at American Fork Amphitheater at 5:00 PM. The light started to get really REALLY fabulous over there around 6:30 when we finished up, but the nice thing about that location is that there's almost ALWAYS good light to be had somewhere if you shoot in the morning or afternoon. The earlier or the later the better, however.

Some of my very favorites from this shoot were the individuals of little kids, and teenagers. I love watching someone come to life in the camera lens.

A favorite new trick that I employed was to have the little kids give me a scary ROAR. When they did, I reacted as though I were really scared, and when they were grinning with self-satisfaction in the aftermath, magic happened. Hopefully I'll be able to post some good shots from that one, soon.

Wow, how I've neglected this blog. Too busy with photography, not enough time or energy to update the blog. But I'm excited to present the family portraits I shot on Saturday. It's still brown and dead-looking outside, and so I took these in my living room studio. Isn't this an adorable family. They brought Grandma and Grandpa along to help out, and it was such a good idea.

Their darling baby has just turned one, and boy can she smile.

Whew! Busy Weekend!

Saturday was a busy day. I had two family portrait shoots that day. My morning shoot was definitely interesting. The light was bright, bright, bright. Thank goodness we shot at a location that had quite a bit of shady spots, but man, I'm really missing the leaves that are usually on the trees by this time of year. Normally we can get some good shade for portraits by May. Anyway, we used some great stonework at the American Fork Amphitheater, and the family had chosen some well-coordinated outfits for the shoot. The pictures looked great. No samples of the day, because I didn't get model release forms signed.

Later that day I shot a group who were all reunited for the first time in ten years for their grandmother's 90th birthday. They did a great job, too, and we shot at the Tahitian Noni Gardens. The tulips are looking lovely there this time of year, and the light was good at that location with the waterfall on the hill as a backdrop.

Oh how I love spring photography!

Family Portraits at American Fork Amphitheater

Thanks to a late spring, we had a rough time finding greenery for this outdoor on location portrait shoot. But once again, the amphitheater came through beautifully. Everybody looked great, and we had a good time. Their youngest son was a perfect photo subject, easily paying attention, and smiling beautifully. It was a lovely morning shoot. Again reinforcing my love of morning light.
